Dislocation of Urban Space
Adorno wrote : „Es ist das Mögliche, nie das unmittelbar Wirkliche, das der Utopie den Platz versperrt.“
The works of the French artist Hervé Trioreau (TTrioreau) could be seen as an urbanistic/architectural illustration of this sentence. More precisely TTrioreau's proposals are linked to the nature of the urban system. His installations play with the structure/s of architectural spaces. They emphasize the displacements that perturb our perception and display in a political fashion the normative character of architecture. His work establishes junctions in the interior/exterior relations.
TTrioreau concentrates on the very structures of the urban tissue. His radical interventions in architectural settings are often opposed to established ideas on the role and the meaning of construction. In his system of transformations, the binary notions of “inside” and “outside”, of the whole vs. the detail, of real vs. imaginary space reveal their very construction (“Konstruiertheit”). Searching to include a multitude of possibilities, he creates hybrid territories and undermines the perception of the body by depriving it of its habitual system of orientation. These hybrid territories are transgressed or transgressing spaces that do not offer a definitive equilibrium because the limits become the more blurred the more inference increases.
TTrioreau exhibits abnormal, diverging structures which are already a hidden part of urban normalization. Architecture is only static by way of assigning controlled identities. In proposing an alternative perspective, the installation inscribes itself as a polemic process. His work forces us to questions our confidence in the structural solidity of buildings, in their immobility and their permanence, and focuses on their other qualities, as intervals, passages, transitions.
”Utopolis” could be the occasion to present the works of TTrioreau and to address their theoretical aspects.
